Krupa Collects Third Career MAC Weekly Accolade

MUNCIE, Ind. - Senior Chris Krupa (Indianapolis/Pike) has been named the Mid-American Conference Men's Swimmer of the Week after leading the Ball State men's swimming and diving team versus Big 10 foe Michigan State Saturday afternoon at Lewellen Aquatic Center.
Krupa posted first-place efforts in the 200 fly (1:53.07) and 200 IM (1:57.70), and a third-place finish in the 100 fly (51.01). He also combined with Michael Weber (Lorain, Ohio/Elyria Catholic), Gavin McNeeley (North Manchester, Ind./Manchester) and Casey Schroeder (Williamsport, Ind./Seeger Memorial) on the first-place 200 medley relay (1:34.71).
Krupa tallied the honor for the third time in his career, having first earned the award earned Dec. 1, 2008 for his performance during the Doug Coers Invitational. He captured the event title in the 100 fly (52.88), while placing second in the 200 fly (1:57.44) and third in the 200 IM (1:58.31). Krupa also stood as a member of the second-place 400 freestyle relay (3:10.45), 200 medley relay (1:38.34) and 400 medley relay (3:36.07).
As a sophomore, Krupa earned MAC Swimmer of the Week honors Dec. 8, 2009 after leading Ball State to four wins versus Eastern Illinois, IUPUI, Saint Louis and Western Illinois.
He scored a pair of individual victories versus the Panthers, while swimming the third leg for the first-place 200 medley relay squad, which clocked in at 1:37.02. Krupa captured the top spot in the 200 fly with a season-fast time of 1:57.49, while winning the 100 fly with a clocking of 52.35.
During the quadrangular meet at IUPUI Natatorium, Krupa placed first in both fly events for the second straight day and recorded a season-fast effort of 52.20 in the 100, while adding a 1:57.96 in the 200. He also posted a second-place effort in the 200 IM (2:01.58), while swimming the third leg for the first-place 200 medley relay (1:36.98).
Krupa and the Cardinals return to action Friday, Jan. 13 as Ball State hosts Eastern Illinois at 6 p.m. from Lewellen Aquatic Center.
