November 02, 2011 | Field Hockey
MUNCIE, Ind. - Seniors Devanny Kuhn (Louisville, Ky./Sacred Heart Academy) and Gretchen Lulow (Ballwin, Mo./Cor Jesu Academy) earned First Team and Second Team Mid-American Conference Postseason honors, as announced by the league office Wednesday afternoon.
Kuhn, a communication studies major, stands as a First Team All-MAC selection for the second time in her career after tallying first team honors last season and second team honors as a sophomore.
The award caps a spectacular senior season for Kuhn, as she posted goals against Rider, Miami, Ohio, Kent State, Central Michigan and Missouri State, while making 19 total appearances.
A four-year letterwinner at Ball State, Kuhn has started 75 games since joining the Cardinals and has tallied 29 goals and 11 assists for a total of 69 points. The 29 goals and 69 points rank first among all active BSU players.
During her freshman season, she recorded her first two career goals versus Central Michigan and Missouri State and as a sophomore, Kuhn collected Second Team All-MAC honors after starting in all 19 games in the midfield.
She earned MAC Offensive Player of the Week honors Oct. 27, 2009 for an all-around effort and four-goal performance, two unassisted, against the Bears as her four goals stand as the most by any player in a single game since 2007 for Ball State.
Kuhn appeared in 18 games with 18 starts during her junior season and earned First Team All-MAC accolades, in addition to MAC Offensive Player of Week honors on two occasions. On Sept. 8, 2010, she collected the honor for the second time in her career after combining for four goals and two assists on the weekend against Robert Morris and St. Louis. Kuhn earned the honor a third time Oct. 13, 2010 for her performance versus Central Michigan and UC Davis.
Lulow has earned Second-Team All-MAC honors for the second-consecutive season, also marking the ninth-consecutive season in which Ball State has had at least one player earn second team accolades.
This season, the exercise science major tallied four goals versus Central Michigan, Missouri State and Kent State, in addition to an assist against Miami, while making 19 appearances.
Lulow has also been successful off the field, as she is on her way to becoming a four-year member of the NFHCA National Academic Squad, in addition to earning Academic All-MAC honors last season.
A four-year letterwinner at Ball State, Lulow has started 51 games since joining the Cardinals and has tallied 10 goals and 16 assists for a total of 36 points. As a freshman, Lulow played in 10 games with one start in the regular season finale at Missouri and she notched her first career assist versus Missouri State.
After sitting out during the 2008 season with a medical redshirt, Lulow returned in 2009, seeing action in 18 games with 11 starts. She scored two goals in 18 shots and tallied two assists.
As a junior, Lulow started in all 20 games and earned Second Team All-MAC honors after tallying 20 points from four goals and 12 assists.
Ball State earned the fourth seed in the MAC tournament and will travel to Athens, Ohio, to play No. 5 Miami in a first round contest Thursday at 11 a.m. from Pruitt Field.
