October 24, 2011 | Men's Basketball
MUNCIE, Ind. - The Ball State Men's basketball team took its Cardinal's Care program to West View Elementary School Monday morning and spoke on the topics of respect, sportsmanship, education and work ethic.
While they were at West View, fifth-year head coach Billy Taylor, senior forward Jarrod Jones (Michigan City, Ind./Michigan City) and junior guard Jauwan Scaife (Muncie, Ind./Central) spent quality time with the students during their lunch period and helped them celebrate by passing out awards for perfect attendance. Also, Taylor talked about the importance of being respectful, while Jones and Scaife spoke about education, listening and work ethic.
The Cardinals' community outreach program is in its third year under Taylor's guidance. Ball State frequently visits grade schools, missionaries, youth groups and plans on doing an "Adopt-a-Family" sponsorship during the holiday season.
"Our vision for this community outreach program is to enable our student-athletes to engage in meaningful community service projects while pursuing their undergraduate degree," Taylor said. "By doing so, we will help make a positive impact in our community."
Taylor and the Cardinals welcome the community to come out and support the team Thursday evening in its annual Fan Jam held at Worthen Arena from 6:30-8:00 p.m. Admission is free and basketball sling bags will be given out to the first 250 kids in attendance. The Fan Jam gives all fans the chance to meet the coaches and players, plus receive your 2011-12 autographed basketball posters.
