
Ali Bishel Earns Academic All-MAC Accolades

MUNCIE, Ind. - - Ball State senior cross country runner Ali Bishel (Chesterton, Ind./Chesterton H.S.) has been named to the 2010 Academic All-Mid-American Conference Cross Country Team as announced by the league office.
A total of 18 student-athletes were named to the Academic All-MAC squad which was voted on by the faculty athletics representatives at each MAC institution.
Bishel, a landscape architecture major with a 3.59 grade-point average, led the Ball State cross country program in all six races she competed in during the 2010 season. She finished the year with a 46th-place time of 21:47.59 at the 6K NCAA Great Lakes Regional hosted by Oakland University (Nov. 13).
A seven-time Academic All-MAC selection over her cross country and track & field career, Bishel also led the Cardinals with a 19th-place time of 21:37.7 at the 6K Mid-American Conference Championships hosted by Western Michigan (Oct. 30). Bishel's top 5K time of the season came at the Indiana Intercollegiates (Sept. 17) when she placed third overall with a clocking of 17:42.10.
To earn Academic All-MAC status, a student-athlete must excel in athletics and academics. To qualify, a student-athlete must have at least a 3.20 cumulative grade-point average and participate in at least 50 percent of the contests for their particular sport. First-year students and junior college transfers in their first year of residence are not eligible for the award.
