MUNCIE, Ind. - Ball State men's basketball head coach Billy Taylor announced the addition of former Cardinal Mickey Hosier to the staff as Video Coordinator Friday morning. Hosier was a four-year letterwinner for the Cardinals from 1997-2000 and is currently teaching in the elementary education department at BSU.
"I am thrilled to have Mickey join our basketball coaching staff," Taylor said. "He has enjoyed success throughout his professional, academic and basketball experiences. For our student-athletes and staff, Mickey provides a valuable connection to some of our most cherished basketball history here at Ball State. Also, he represents the first BSU basketball alum to join our coaching staff which really excites me. I look forward to working with Mickey as part of our coaching team."
Hosier, a native of Alexandria, Ind., was a four-year letterwinner and three-year starter for the Cardinals. He helped led Ball State to a 59-29 record during his career as a starter. He helped the Cardinals win a Mid-American Conference West Division title and NIT appearance in 1998 as well as a MAC Tournament championship and NCAA Tournament appearance in 2000. He averaged 30.9 minutes per game as a senior while handing out 3.5 assists per game and notching 1.8 steals per contest.
"I want to thank Coach Taylor for the opportunity to be a part of the Ball State basketball family once again," Hosier said. "Ball State has always had a special place in my life and my family and I are very excited to be back involved with the program. Coach Taylor promotes excellence both on the court and in the classroom and it is a privilege to join his staff."
Hosier moved into the coaching ranks after his playing career as he held varsity positions at Wes-Del, Lakeview Christian and Alexandria High Schools in East Central Indiana. He was the youngest varsity coach in the state of Indiana at the age of 24 and he guided Wes-Del to the 2003 sectional championship.
Hosier excelled at the high school level in East Central Indiana as he was a four-year starter at Alexandria-Monroe High School. He led his school to a 74-19 record during his career and finished with 777 career assists. He earned Indiana All-Star accolades as a senior.
Hosier earned his bachelor's degree in elementary education from Ball State in 2000. He and his wife Amanda have one son, M.J. (9), and three daughters - Gracyn (8), Gabrianna (5) and Jacklynn (3).
