August 17, 2010 | Field Hockey
MUNCIE, Ind. -- Ball State's annual Fan Jam celebration officially kicked off the start of the fall season and the BSU field hockey team took part in the festivities as the Cardinals entertained fans with festivities at Scheumann Stadium.
First-year head coach Beth Maddox, first-year assistant coach Jacque DeMarco and the field hockey squad attended the celebration to sign autographs and give skill lessons to fans of all ages. The Cardinals return six seniors in Elizabeth Blaum, Morgan Cloutier, Hannah Jones, Kaitlan Mitchell, Maura Sawicki and Ellen Vonderbrink, in addition to the squad's top-scorer in junior Devanny Kuhn.
"Fan Jam was a great opportunity for our girls to meet the wonderful people of Muncie!" Maddox said. "They were able to interact with people who do not know much about our sport so it was a fantastic way to get the word out about the great sport of field hockey! The team really enjoyed teaching the little kids and had an even better time showing our other athletes how to play! I think the football team has a new appreciation for what our girls do on a day to day basis! It was a great day and we hope to see every at our games!"
Ball State's 2010 Fan Jam gave the fans the opportunity to meet the field hockey team plus the Cardinals' football, women's soccer and women's volleyball squads. Team posters, schedules and autographs from the student-athletes were available. In addition, Ball State had interactive sports stations set up for all sports. The Fan Jam was broadcast live by WLBC FM 104.1 and participating sponsors for the event included AT&T, Discount Tire, Great Deals, Outback Steakhouse, Pepsi, Qdoba Mexican Grill, Ruby Tuesday, Small Engine Warehouse and Sport Clips.
The Cardinals travel to Farmville, Va. for a pair of season-opening matches against Longwood on Friday, Aug. 27 and Appalachian State set for Saturday, Aug. 28. Maddox and the team opens the home portion of the 2010 season Friday, Sept. 3 at the BSU Turf Field against Robert Morris at 3 p.m.
