
Softball Team Evens Record With Win Over Kennesaw State

Ball State's softball team evened its record at 2-2 with a win over the host, Kennesaw State, at the Phyllis Rafter Memorial Tournament in Woodstock, Ga., Saturday. The Cardinals defeated Tennessee Tech and lost to Western Illinois in the first day of the tourney on Friday.
Ball State suffered a 9-1 loss to Mercer in Saturday's first game before tallying a 1-0 win over Kennesaw State in the second game.
In the first game, Ball State was led by Sadie Robertson, who went 1-for-3 with one run scored and one run-batted-in.
Mercer jumped ahead 4-0 after two innings, and Ball State's run in the top of the fifth cut the deficit to 5-1 before Mercer added four more runs in the bottom of the sixth to win the game.
In the second game vs. Kennesaw State, Ball State handed the host only its second loss against four wins this season. Elizabeth Milian went the distance for the Cardinals, allowing only two hits and striking out 13 of the 26 batters she faced. Meredith Nash was 1-for-2 with the lone RBI for Ball State.
The Cardinals scored in the bottom of the second for the only run of the contest. With one out, Jen Reifschneider doubled down the left field line. Jackie Durment pinch ran for Reifschneider and advanced to third on a Robertson single to left. Durment later scored on a single by Nash.
Ball State will resume play Sunday at 10:30 a.m. when it takes on the Southern Illinois Salukis (7-2) for the Cardinals final game in the Rafter Memorial Tournament.
