MUNCIE, Ind. - Ball State sophomore forward Jarrod Jones (Michigan City, Ind./Michigan City) has been named the Mid-American Conference West Division Co-Player of the Week, the league office announced Monday. Jones shares the weekly award with Western Michigan's David Kool and receives his second weekly honor of the year (December 28).
Jones, a preseason All-MAC selection, led the Cardinals to a 3-0 week in MAC play as they defeated rival Miami in double overtime and claimed road victories at Buffalo and Ohio. Jones averaged 15.7 points and 7.7 rebounds on the week as he scored in double figures in all three victories to help the Cardinals improved to 5-3 in league play.
Jones posted his fifth double-double of the season against Miami as he scored a career-high 21 points and grabbed 12 rebounds in a double-overtime victory. The win was the Cardinals first over the RedHawks since the 2003-04 season.
Jones added 14 points in the Cardinals' come-from-behind victory at Buffalo before posting 12 points in the Cardinals' late rally at Ohio. He scored the game-winning basket at Ohio with 2.1 seconds left in the overtime period to secure Ball State's first victory in Athens since January 8, 1998. On the season, he leads the team in scoring at 12.4 points per game and on the glass at 7.5 rebounds per contest.
The Cardinals return to action Thursday evening as they host MAC East foe Bowling Green at 7 p.m. at Worthen Arena.
