FH Drops Senior Day Contest to Central Michigan

MUNCIE, Ind. - Senior defender Elizabeth Blaum (Wilkes Barre, Pa./Wyoming Seminary) scored her second goal of the season, however the Ball State field hockey team fell to Mid-American Conference foe Central Michigan, 1-3, Sunday afternoon at the BSU Turf Field. The Chippewas outshot the Cardinals, 16-8, and recorded a 12-6 advantage on penalty corners.
At 4:28 mark, Central Michigan's Erin Dye tallied the first goal off a corner past the Cardinals' junior goalkeeper Chelsea Mitchell (Stevens, Pa./Cocalico). Dye scored her second goal of the game at 24:06 mark off another penalty corner. Simone Lazar and Pam Seufert provided the double assist for each of the goals.
Less than five minutes later, Blaum put Ball State on the board with a goal off a Cardinal penalty corner. Senior defender Morgan Cloutier (Chapel Hill, N.C./Chapel Hill) provided the assist, her first of the season.
At 62:19 mark, Pam Seufert scored off a deflection to help the Chippewas secure the 3-1 victory against the Cardinals.
Blaum also recorded a defensive save, her first of the season, while senior Maura Sawicki (St. Louis/Nerinx Hall) and junior Gretchen Lulow (Ballwin, Mo./Cor Jesu Academy) combined for another three defensive saves for Ball State. Cloutier finished the contest with two shots, while junior Kristen Falk tallied three and senior Hannah Jones (Louisville, Ky./Dupont Manual) tallied one.
Junior goalkeeper Chelsea Mitchell (Stevens, Pa./Cocalico) accumulated five saves in 70:00 of action in the cage.
With the loss to Central Michigan, Ball State earned the sixth seed in the MAC tournament and will travel to Mount Pleasant, Mich. to play No. 3 Ohio in a first round contest Thursday at 1:30 p.m. from the CMU Field Hockey Complex.
