Field Hockey Falls to Ohio in MAC Tournament

MUNCIE, Ind. - The Ball State field hockey team fell to Mid-American Conference foe No. 3 Ohio, 5-0, in a first round contest of the MAC tournament Thursday afternoon at the CMU Field Hockey Complex. The Bobcats outshot the Cardinals, 18-4, and recorded a 7-3 advantage on penalty corners.
Ohio opening up scoring within the first 10 minutes of the game, as Cathryn Altdoerffer scored her ninth goal of the season past Ball State junior goalkeeper Chelsea Mitchell (Stevens, Pa./Cocalico). The Bobcats increased their lead to 3-0 before halftime. Altdoerffer and Louzeth Schutte tallied Ohio's last two goals of the game, the final at 63:03 mark off a penalty corner.
Senior defender Morgan Cloutier (Chapel Hill, N.C./Chapel Hill) finished the contest with three shots, while junior midfielder Gretchen Lulow (Ballwin, Mo./Cor Jesu Academy) tallied one. Senior Maura Sawicki (St. Louis/Nerinx Hall) added a defensive save for Ball State, completing the season with a team-high 15 defensive saves. Mitchell accumulated five saves in 70:00 of action in the cage.
With a 2-1 victory against No. 5 Missouri State earlier today, No. 4 Central Michigan advances to play No. 1 Kent State Friday while Ohio has a second round match with Miami at 1:30 p.m. at the CMU Field Hockey Complex.
