Field Hockey Defeats Central Michigan in Overtime, 3-2

MUNCIE, Ind. - Junior midfielder Devanny Kuhn (Louisville, Ky./Sacred Heart) scored the game-winning goal in overtime as the Ball State field hockey team defeated Mid-American Conference foe Central Michigan, 3-2, Saturday afternoon at the CMU Field Hockey Complex.
The Chippewas outshot the Cardinals, 15-5, however Ball State capitalized on 3-of-4 shots on goal.
"It was a team effort and everyone contributed to this win," head coach Beth Maddox said.
At 12:35 mark, junior forward Kristen Falk (Pennsburg, Pa./Perkiomen) opened up scoring for the Cardinals with her first goal of the season past the Chippewas' goalkeeper Anastasia Netto. Junior midfielder Gretchen Lulow (Ballwin, Mo./Cor Jesu) provided the assist.
The Chippewas evened the score less than three minutes before halftime as Erin Dye netted an unassisted shot past the Cardinals' junior goalkeeper Chelsea Mitchell (Stevens, Pa./Cocalico). Central Michigan followed the performance with a second goal at 68:13 mark when Brittany Burga scored her first goal of the season.
With just 15 seconds to go in the second half, Kuhn evened the score at 2-2 and sent the contest into overtime after Lulow sent her a pass from down the midfield. Then at 71:03 mark, Kuhn continued her hot-shooting and buried the game-winning goal on an unassisted shot for her 11th goal of the season.
Senior forward Maura Sawicki (St. Louis, Mo./Nerinx Hall) finished the contest with her second defensive save of the season, while senior forward Hannah Jones (Louisville, Ky./Dupont Manual) record one shot. Mitchell tallied four saves in 71:03 minutes in the cage, while Netto recorded one.
Ball State returns to the BSU Turf Field Sunday to host UC Davis in a game scheduled for 11 a.m. The contest versus UC Davis Sunday marks the first meeting between the two teams.
