Field Hockey Defeated by Miami

MUNCIE, Ind. - The Ball State field hockey team fell to Mid-American Conference opponent Miami, 7-0, Friday afternoon at the Miami Field Hockey Complex. The RedHawks outshot the Cardinals, 18-6, and recorded a 7-2 advantage on penalty corners.
Miami opening up scoring within the first 10 minutes of the game, as Emily Gruesser scored a goal on a shot that bounced off the foot of a Ball State defender. The RedHawks increased their lead to 5-0 before the teams headed to the locker rooms at halftime. Mary Hull provided Miami's last two goals of the game, the final at 59:00 mark off a penalty corner.
Senior Morgan Cloutier (Chapel Hill, N.C./Chapel Hill) tallied two shots and a defensive save, while sophomore Devon Bell (Woodbury, N.J./Cherokee) recorded the Cardinals' second defensive save on the day. Each defensive save stands as a career first for Cloutier and Bell.
Junior Gretchen Lulow (Ballwin, Mo./Cor Jesu Academy), junior forward Kristen Falk (Pennsburg, Pa./Upper Perkiomen), sophomore Marisa Weachter (Manheim, Pa./Manheim Central) and junior forward CJ Hermes (Louisville, Ky./Mercy Academy) all finished with one shot each, while sophomore goalkeeper Morgan Hammer (Pittsburgh, Pa./Fox Chapel Area) accumulated six saves in 70:00 of action in the cage.
Ball State returns to the BSU Turf Field Sunday to host Central Michigan in a contest scheduled for 1 p.m. Against the Chippewas, Cloutier joins fellow seniors Ellen Vonderbrink (Kettering, Ohio/Fairmont), Elizabeth Blaum (Wilkes Barre, Pa./Wyoming Seminary), Hannah Jones (Louisville, Ky./Dupont Manual) and Kaitlan Mitchell (Stevens, Pa./Cocalico) in their last home game at the BSU Turf Field as the team celebrates Senior Day.
