Women's Tennis Fights Back for Win After Losing Doubles Point in Home Opener

Junior Hayley Hall (Muncie, Ind.) started the momentum for the Cardinals with a 6-0, 6-1 win against Dayton's Loni Dickerhoof at No. 2.
"Hayley's soaring start really set the tone for the singles matches," Ball State head coach Amy Behrman said. "I'm very happy and proud of the team."
Also picking up singles' wins for Ball State was Georgina Thomson (Brisbane, Australia) at No. 4, Kylee Johnson (Indianapolis, Ind.) at No. 5 and Lauren Pickrel (Kettering, Ohio) at No. 6. Winning the sole set for Ball State in doubles competition was the duo of Katherine Rist (Leawood, Kan.) and Paola Rodriguez (Vega Baja, Puerto Rico) at No. 3.
In last year's home opener, the Cardinals lost to the Flyers, 3-4.
The Cardinals will attempt to go 2-0 when they take on Wright State, Jan. 21 at 2 p.m. in the Muncie YMCA. Ball State defeated Wright State, 7-0, under former head coach Kathy Bull, last season.
"I think the Wright State match will be very competitive," Behrman said. "There will be good matches played, and I hope we can get the same kind of community support we had this week. It's really encouraging to see the stands full of fans."
