Men's Golf Finishes 13th in Season Opener

Ball State's men's golf team placed 13th out of 17 teams at the Wolf Run Intercollegiate at Wolf Run Golf Club in Zionsville, Ind., in the season opening event for the Cardinals.
Eric Steger was the top finisher for Ball State with a 78-72-72=222 to tie for 27th. Ross Cosat managed a 74-76-73=223 to tie for 31st in the event.
Eric Skillman, who fired a second round 68, managed an 81-68-79=228 to tie for 53rd at the tournament. Anthony Novak carded an 80-71-86=237 to finish 77th at Wolf Run. Ball State freshman Brodie Williams was one of the Cardinals leaders after firing a 74 in the first round, on the strength of eight birdies. Williams tallied an 83-82 in the last two rounds for a 239 and finished 79th.
Ball State's 306-287-306=899 placed the Cardinals ahead of Missouri (900), Kentucky (911), Toledo (919) and IUPUI (1004). Ball State finished only four strokes behind Purdue (895) and seven behind Eastern Michigan (892). Illinois won the event with an 847.
Wolf Run Golf Club is currently ranked the 20th best course in the country in Golfweek's America's 100 Best Modern Courses, and will host the 2011 NCAA Midwest Men's Golf Regional.
Ball State was joined at the event by Eastern Michigan, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa State, IUPUI, Kansas State, Kentucky, Louisville, Michigan, Missouri, North Florida, Penn State, Purdue, Toledo, Tulsa and UCF.
