Men's Golf Places Second at Michigan State Tournament

Ball State's men's golf team placed second at the Fossum Invitational in East Lansing, Mich. The Cardinals finished behind only the host, Michigan State, which entered the event ranked 37th in the nation.
The tournament was hampered by bad weather and was eventually shortened to a 45-hole event. The Cardinals tallied a 302-294-151=747, to finish 33 strokes behind the Spartans.
Ross Cosat was the top golfer for Ball State with a 77-68-39=184 to finish ninth in the tournament. Andrew Rhodes tied for 13th after carding a 75-73-39=187. Brian Maurer tied for 19th with a 75-77-38=190. Eric Steger tied for 21st with a 78-78-35=191, while Anthony Novak managed a tie for 27th with a 75-76-43=194. Matt Schumaker competed as an individual and tallied a 79-77-41=197 to tie for 36th.
Ball State will host the Mid-American Conference Championships Thursday through Saturday at the Brickyard Crossing Golf Course in Speedway, Ind.
