MUNCIE, Ind. - The Ball State University women's tennis team (5-6, 0-1 MAC) opened Mid-American Conference play Friday afternoon against Northern Illinois at the Muncie YMCA Tennis Center. The Cardinals fell 4-3 to the Huskies.

In doubles action sophomore Georgina Thomson alongside teammate Dena Boulieris earned the lone doubles victory after defeating Nao Umemura and Brooke Forsberg, 8-5. NIU would earn wins at No. 2 and No. 3 doubles to go ahead of the Cardinals 1-0.

Ball State captured wins at No. 4, No. 5 and No. 6 singles to climb its way back into the match. Sophomore Hayley Hall defeated Umemura 6-0, 7-6 (5). Thomson was a winner over Emily Rogers, 6-3, 7-5 while teammate freshman Hanna Oman claimed a 6-3, 7-6 (4) victory over Sara McLaughlin. Unfortunately freshman Kylee Johnson fell at No. 3 in three sets to Martina Schnapp given NIU three singles victories to win the match.

The Ball State University women's tennis team continues MAC play on the road at Miami Saturday, March 28. The match is set to begin at 1 p.m.
