MUNCIE, Ind. - For the fifth consecutive season, the Ball State field hockey team has had nine players earn recognition on the National Field Hockey Coaches Association Division I National Academic Squad, as announced Monday by the NFHCA.
Kristen Falk, CJ Hermes, Hannah Jones, Brooke MacGillivary, Caitlin Maguire, Kaitlan Mitchell, Katie Norris, Melanie Pasillas and Maura Sawicki each earned the honor.
The National Academic Squad program recognizes those collegiate student-athletes who have achieved a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.30 through the first semester of the 2008-09 academic year.
Pasillas is a four year recipient of the award. Juniors MacGillivary and Sawicki have each been recognized three years in a row. Mitchell, a sophomore, has been named to the squad two straight years; and Jones, also a sophomore, earned the honor for the first time. Freshmen Falk, Hermes and Maguire also earned the honor for the first time.
The nine honorees matches the third-most all-time at Ball State. The Cardinals' 1997 and 2008 team had the most players recognized with 12. Ball State has had at least nine players named to the team in each of the past five seasons.
