Women's Golf Wins El Diablo Intercollegiate in Florida

The Ball State women's golf team won its third tournament championship of the season after claiming a victory at the El Diablo Intercollegiate in Citrus Springs, Fla., Friday afternoon.
The Cardinals won the 15-team event, which was hosted by Eastern Kentucky and played at the El Diablo Golf and Country Club. Ball State managed a 304-301-309=914 team score to win easily over second place James Madison and Florida Atlantic, which tallied 927 team scores.
Kirsty O'Connor led the Cardinals with a 77-69-77=223 to finish second in the 75-player field. O'Connor's 69 in the second round was a career low for her, besting her previous best score of 70 in the 2007-08 season. The 69 also tied a Ball State school record for low 18-hole score by an individual. O'Connor's 69 tied the 69 by Brittany Kelly at the 2007 Mid-American Conference Tournament Preview at the Brickyard Golf Course in Speedway, Ind.
Rachael Pruett tied for seventh with a 73-78-77, while Brittany Kelly tied for 10th after carding three straight 77's.
Kristtini Cain finished 12th with a 77-77-78 and Sarah Windlan tallied an 83-85-79.
Joining the Cardinals in the event were Austin Peay, Eastern Kentucky, Florida Atlantic, Florida Gulf Coast, Indianapolis, IUPUI, James Madison, Murray State, Radford, Southern Illinois, Southern Illinois Edwardsville, St. John's, UAB and South Carolina Upstate.
The Cardinals also won their own Cardinal Classic Sept. 22-23, and the Hawkeye Invitational in Iowa City, Iowa, Oct. 4-5.
Ball State will be back in action March 29-30 at the Saluki Invitational in Carbondale, Ill.
