December 08, 2009 | Men's Swimming and Diving
MUNCIE, Ind. - - After leading the Ball State men's swimming and diving team to four wins last weekend, sophomore Chris Krupa (Indianapolis, Ind./Pike H.S.) has been named the Mid-American Conference Men's Swimmer of the Week.
This is Krupa's second career MAC Swimmer of the Week honor, and the team's second consecutive award, as no league teams were in action over the Thanksgiving holiday.
"Chris is a competitor in everything he does," said Ball State head coach Bob Thomas. "He loves to race and it showed last weekend."
In last Friday's dual meet versus Eastern Illinois, Krupa scored a pair of individual victories, while swimming the third leg for the first-place 200 medley relay squad that clocked in at 1:37.02. Krupa captured the top spot in the 200 fly with a season-fast time of 1:57.49, while winning the 100 fly with a clocking of 52.35.
On Saturday, Krupa helped guide the Cardinals to wins over IUPUI, Saint Louis and Western Illinois in a quadrangular meet at the IUPUI Natatorium by placing first in both butterfly events for the second straight day. Krupa recorded a season-fast effort of 52.20 in the 100, while adding a 1:57.96 in the 200.
Krupa also posted a second-place effort in the 200 IM at the IUPUI quad meet with a time of 2:01.58, while swimming the third leg for the first-place 200 medley relay team clocked a 1:36.98.
Entering the week, Krupa's season-fast times rank him in the top 15 in the conference in the 100 butterfly (11th/52.20), 200 butterfly (9th/1:57.48) and the 200 individual medley (15th/1:59.25).
The Ball State men's swimming and diving team returns to action Saturday, when it hosts Michigan State at 2 p.m. at the Lewellen Aquatic Center. The BSU women's squad will also compete against the Spartans.
