Men's Swimming & Diving Opens Season Saturday At Buffalo

MUNCIE, Ind. - - The Ball State men's swimming and diving team will begin its 69th campaign Saturday when it travels to N.Y. to compete at Mid-American Conference rival Buffalo. The Cardinals' first meet is slated for a 1 p.m. start at UB's Alumni Arena Natatorium.
In the program's annual Red/White meet (Oct. 24), the white team defeated the red squad, 172-109. Overall, the white team collected victories in 12 of the 16 evetns.
Sophomore Chris Krupa (Indianapolis, Ind./Pike H.S.) led all Cardinals with three event wins for the white squad.
Also turning in a pair of wins each for the white team were seniors Tyler Dixon (Jeffersonville, Ind./Jeffersonville H.S.), Ben Karwoski (Bluffton, Ind./Bluffton H.S.), and Austin Laska (Palos Park, Ill./A.A. Stagg H.S).
Junior Jeremy Whited (Richmond, Ind./Richmond H.S.) rounded out the white team winners by capturing the 1-meter diving title.
For the red squad, sophomore Gavin McNeely (North Manchester, Ind./Manchester H.S.) led the team with two victories, while junior Mark Golden (Itasca, Ill./Lake Park H.S.) and freshman Quinton Rodriguez (Rockford, Mich./Rockford H.S.) each notched an event win.
In last season's meet at Buffalo, the Cardinals suffered a 130-109 setback to the Bulls on Nov. 8. Overall, the men's squad scored wins in four of the 13 events that day.
Laska opened the winning for the Cardinals by posting a time of 21.58 in the 50 free. He also combined with Ben Battjes (Elkhart, Ind./Elkhart Memorial H.S.), Krupa and Casey Schroeder (Williamsport, Ind./Seeger Memorial H.S.) for a first-place time of 3:14.43 in the 400 freestyle relay.
