
Men's Golf Finishes Sixth at Renaissance Invitational

The Ball State men's golf team finished in sixth place out of 12 teams at The Renaissance Invitational in Fort Myers, Fla.
The Cardinals tallied a 295-275-281=851 in the event held at the Renaissance Golf Club. The third round 281 was the second low round of the tournament's third round. Indiana won the tournament with an 832, while Miami University was fifth with an 850 and Bowling Green was 12th with an 880.
Eric Steger led all Ball State golfers and tied for fifth with a 75-64-65=204. Steger's 64 was a career low, and his two rounds in the 60's at the Renaissance brought his total to four for the fall season. Steger completed the fall with three straight top five individual finishes.
Joe Gasser tied for 20th after managing a 73-67-74=214. Eric Skillman carded a 71-74-71=216 to tie for 27th, and Ross Cosat tied for 29th after tallying a 76-70-71=217. Freshman Alex Stinson carded a 77-81-76=234 to finish 63rd.
The Cardinals were joined at the 12-team event by Bowling Green, Campbell, Eastern Kentucky, Indiana, Liberty, Marshall, Miami University, Middle Tennessee State, Penn State, Troy and Xavier.
Ball State has completed the fall portion of its 2009-10 schedule. The Cardinals won the 17-team Dayton Fall Invitational Oct. 19-20 plus placed second at the Cincinnati Bearcat Invitational and the Earl Yestingsmeier Invitational this fall. In the six tournaments, the Cardinals managed five top-10 showings.
