Field Hockey's Kuhn Earns Player Of The Week Honors
October 27, 2009 | Field Hockey
MUNCIE, Ind. - Ball State's sophomore midfielder Devanny Kuhn (Louisville, Ky./Sacred Heart Academy) has been named the Mid-American Conference Offensive Player of the Week as announced by league officials Tuesday for the first time in her career. Kuhn joins Hannah Jones and Elizabeth Blaum as the third Ball State player to earn the honor this season.
The Cardinals were outmatched in almost every statistical category except for the 4-2 score against Missouri State last weekend. Sophomore Devanny Kuhn displayed an all-around effort with a sensational four-goal performance, two of which were unassisted. Kuhn, who posted just one goal and three assists before Saturday's game, now leads the team with 13 points. Her four goals are the most by any player in a single game since 2007 for Ball State.
Led by Kuhn, Ball State improved its overall record to 4-12 (2-6 in MAC). Senior Tiffany Shifflett also reached the 111 save milestone that included nine saves against the Bears. The Cardinals face Ohio and Kent State this weekend before coming back to the BSU Turf Field as hosts of the MAC Tournament November 5-7. Kent State's Caroline Suitch earned Defensive Player of the Week honors for a shutout against Michigan that continues the Golden Flashes' seven road victories.
