
Men's Golf Wins Dayton Invitational

Ball State University's men's golf team, under the direction of head coach Mike Fleck, won the 17-team Dayton Flyer Invitational at the National Cash Register Club in Dayton, Ohio.
The Cardinals tallied a 305-291=596 to win the event by five strokes over Toledo and eight strokes over Bowling Green.
Eric Steger led Ball State's efforts with a second place showing in the 36-hole tournament. Steger posted a 72-71=143 on the par-71 course. He finished one stroke behind medalist Justin Lower of Malone University.
The runner-up finish was the second straight for Steger, who also placed second at the Cincinnati Bearcat Invitational Oct. 12-13.
Ross Cosat tied for fifth with a 77-72=149. Alex Stinson tied for 25th with a 77-76=153, while Joe Gasser tied for 42nd after shooting an 84-72=156. Anthony Novak tied for 65th with a 79-81=160, while Zac Henderson competed as an individual and tallied a73-74=147 to finish third in the event.
Joining the Cardinals at the event were Bowling Green, Butler, Chicago State, Dayton, Duquesne, Evansville, IPFW, IUPUI, Malone, Ohio, Ohio State, Robert Morris, Southern Illinois, Toledo, Valparaiso, Wright State and Youngstown State.
The Cardinals will complete their 2009 fall schedule at the Xavier Renaissance Invitational at the Renaissance Golf Club in Fort Myers, Fla., Nov. 1-2.
