Muncie, Ind. ? After breaking even (1-1) in its first two games over Labor Day weekend, the Ball State field hockey team returns to action this weekend with a two-game round-robin tournament in Maryland, where it will face Towson and Bucknell.
Senior defender Jodi Mann (Clifton, Va./Centreville) and freshman forward Brittany Hammer (St. Louis, Mo./St. Joseph's Academy) look to continue the BSU offensive punch, as they led scoring efforts for the Cardinals with a combined five goals in the previous two games.
BSU opens play Friday, with a 1 p.m. showdown versus tournament host Towson. Ball State will have a one-game experience lead on the Tigers, who recorded a win in their first game against Robert Morris last week. Towson finished 8-11 last season with returning junior Christina Boarman earning first team all-conference honors.
The Cardinals return to action Saturday at 10 a.m., when it battles Bucknell University from Lewisburg, Pennsylvania. The Bison, who are coming off a win against Longwood University, were 8-9 last season. Highlighting the Bucknell roster is senior Amanda Faust who is second all-time in program history with 24 assists.
This weekend's games mark the first meetings all-time between Ball State and opponents Towson and Bucknell.
