The Ball State University men's golf team finished second out of 13 teams at its own Earl Yestingsmeier Invitational at Delaware Country Club.
The Cardinals tallied team scores of 290-286-290=866 to finish behind Eastern Kentucky's three round total of 857. Ball State finished ahead of Mid-American Conference opponents Northern Illinois (872), Bowling Green (873) and Ohio (893).
Senior Brian Maurer led the Cardinals with a 69-66-74 to tie for second behind Jesse Massie of Eastern Kentucky. Eric Steger and Ben Lakoff tied for 20th. Steger carded a 78-72-70, while Lakoff managed a 72-73-75. Andrew Rhodes tied for 26th with a 71-77-73 and Eric Skillman tied for 50th with an 80-75-73.
Ball State played a second team in the tournament, which finished eighth in the field. Matt Schumaker tied for 11th with a 70-75-71, Ross Cosat tied for 26th with a 72-74-75 and Zac Treash tied for 32nd with a 74-76-72. Anthony Novak managed a 75-72-78 and Chris Hanson scored a 77-81-86 to round out the Cardinals second squad.
Zac Henderson and TJ Carpenter tied for 32nd while playing as individuals. Henderson managed a 74-78-70, while Carpenter tallied a 73-74-75.
Ball State will continue the fall portion of its schedule Oct. 13-14 at the Xavier Invitational in Loveland, Ohio.
