September 18, 2008 | Cross Country
MUNCIE, Ind. - - Fresh off a third-place showing at the Great American Legends 5K Run (Sept. 5), the Ball State cross country team will return to action Friday at 4:30 p.m., when it competes in the 2008 Indiana Intercollegiates Women's 5K run.
The race, which is open to all universities and colleges in the state of Indiana, will feature 22 women's teams, 21 men's teams and more than 500 athletes over the course of the day.
Friday's contest will mark the 27th running of the women's race, which saw the Cardinals take home second place a year ago, with Ali Bishel (Chesterton, Ind./Chesterton H.S. ) posting the second-fastest time in the event at 17:44.
With Bishel sidelined by injury for the cross country season, the Cardinals will look to senior Vanessa Gilbert (Kettering, Ohio/Fairmont H.S.) to pace the squad in the event this season. At last year's meet, Gilbert clocked in with a seventh-place time of 18:15.
