May 27, 2008 | Baseball
CHILLICOTHE, Ohio -- Ball State senior third baseman Matt Stoeklen was named to the Mid-American Conference All-Tournament Team after leading the Cardinals offensively in their three games at last week's event.
Stoeklen hit .500 (5-for-10) for the tournament with two home runs and five RBI. The senior recorded at least one hit in each of the three games and homered in back-to-back games to open the tournament. In Thursday's 7-5 win over Central Michigan, Stoeklen hit a game-tying two-run home run in the sixth inning.
Ball State went 1-2 in its three games at the tournament to finish the season with a record of 28-25. Stoeklen wrapped up his season with a .290 batting average, nine home runs, 15 doubles and 40 RBI.
Stoeklen is the 20th player in Ball State history to be selected to the MAC All-Tournament Team and the first since the Cardinals placed a school-record five players on the 2006 All-Tournament Team. Ball State won the event that year, led by Tournament MVP Kyle Dygert.
