MUNCIE, Ind. ? The Ball State softball team improved to 23-17, with a 4-2 mark in conference play after sweeping Toledo in a doubleheader 4-2 and 12-3.
Toledo opened up a 2-0 lead in game one when Leslie Stong slammed a two-run home run to right field.
Ball State chipped away at the lead in the bottom of the fourth inning as Alicia Barkley doubled down the left field line. Abby Gross recorded her 26th RBI of the year with a single to center field that allowed Barkley to score the first run of the game for BSU.
Allie Pennock and Alyssa Collins both singled for Ball State in the bottom of the sixth inning. Pennock was able to score off a base hit by Barkley to tie the game. Barkley went on to steal second with Collins on third.
The Cardinals capitalized off a Toledo error to score the final two runs of the game. Amanda Pick hit a high fly ball to right field. The right fielder was unable to make the play and Ball State picked up the 4-2 win.
Elizabeth Milian improved her record to 12-6. Milian threw a two-hitter and struck out six.
Ball State finished the Rockets in five innings in game two. The Cardinals scored eight runs off five hits in the bottom of the second inning to take full control of the game.
BSU scored four more runs in the bottom of the fourth inning to make the score 12-2. Barkley started the inning with a single and was able to score off a triple by Gross. Kathryn Wilczynski hit a double to the fence with the bases loaded. Wilczynski now has 14 RBIs this season.
Ball State had nine hits to generate 12 runs. Gross led the way going 2-4 with four RBIs and Collins went 2-3 with 1 RBI.
The Cardinals return to action tomorrow to face the Bowling Green Falcons at 2:00 p.m.
