April 10, 2008 | Field Hockey
MUNCIE, Ind. -- The Ball State field hockey program was well represented on the National Field Hockey Coaches Association's recently released National Academic Squad. A school record-tying 12 players -- nearly two-thirds of the team -- earned the honor.
Ball State was represented on the squad by:
-- Elizabeth Blaum
-- Lauren Cruz
-- Nicole Humphreys
-- Jamie Kahn
-- Katie Kloeckener
-- Gretchen Lulow
-- Brooke MacGillivary
-- Kaitlan Mitchell
-- Christina Niccum
-- Melanie Pasillas
-- Amanda Pavone
-- Maura Sawicki
Cruz, Humphreys, Kahn, Kloeckener and Pavone all earned the honor for the fourth time in their careers. Pasillas is a three-time recipient of the honor, while MacGillivary and Sawicki have been named to the squad twice. Blaum, Lulow, Mitchell and Niccum all earned the honor for the first time.
The National Academic Squad program recognizes those collegiate student-athletes who have achieved a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.30 through the first semester of the 2007-08 academic year.
Ball State's 12 honorees matches the most in program history. The Cardinals' 1997 team also had 12 players honored. Ball State has had at least nine players named to the team in each of the past four seasons.
