
Softball Rallies To Defeat Harvard

Miami, Fla. -- The Ball State softball team scored three runs in the bottom of the seventh inning to comeback and defeat the Crimson 5-4, but fell to Oregon State 5-2 during the second day of the FIU Tournament.
Abby Gross hit a sacrifice fly to left field to put the Cardinals on top early in game one. Lisa Rozanski tagged up to scored her ninth run of the season on the play.
Harvard had runners on second and third base in the second inning, but Elizabeth Milian got Bailey Vertovez to ground out to second base to end the inning.
A pair of singles by Hayley Bock and Jennifer Francis gave the Crimson a 3-1 lead in the third inning.
Ball State pulled within one run in the bottom of the sixth when Gross singled to left field to earn her 11th RBI of the year.
Harvard got that run back when Stephanie Krysiak singled to left field allowing Margaux Black to score and increase the lead to 4-2.
Milian started the BSU comeback with a single in the seventh inning. Katelyn Gunderson entered the game to pinch run. Alyssa Collins followed with a single to reach first base.
Jen Moore came to the plate to apply a sacrifice bunt, but the Crimson tried to get the out at third, allowing Moore to reach on the fielder's choice.
Shelly Madick of Harvard walked Rozanski with the bases loaded to make the score 4-3.
Alyssa Collins scored the tying run on an infield fly that was dropped by the catcher advancing the runners the second and third.
Aggressive base running gave the Cardinals the edge at the end of the game. Alicia Barkley hit a groundball to first base and reached as the Crimson threw Moore out at home. Barkley rounded first base and attempted to advance to second base. When the Crimson catcher threw to second Rozanski made a dash for home and was called safe giving the Cardinals the 5-4 victory.
In game two, Oregon State got a single from Dani Chisholm and a double from Stefanie Ewing to score two runs in the bottom of the first inning.
Milian got the first hit of the game for BSU, when she singled up the middle.
The Beavers added another run in the second inning as Tarah Black doubled to right field to start the inning. Black came around to score off an infield hit by Alana Ford
Kamilah Holle hit a double to get things started for the Cardinals in the third inning. Rozanski hit a single to left field and advanced to second as the throw went to third. Holle was called safe on the play.
Pennock loaded the bases when she reached first on a bunt. Barkley recorded her seventh RBI of the season when she grounded out to second base. Holle went home making the score 3-1.
Brittney Jones scored on a wild pitch in fourth inning to pull the Cardinals within a run of Oregon State 3-2.
Guzy singled to right field for the Beavers first run of the sixth inning. DeAnn Young added a double to center field to lead the Beavers to the 5-2 victory.
The Cardinals will wrap up the FIU tournament with a match-up against Harvard at 10:30 a.m.
