
Softball Shuts Down Harvard

MIAMI, Fla. -- The Ball State softball team defeated Harvard 9-0 to wrap up the Florida International Tournament on Sunday.
Alicia Barkley finished the game 3-5 with one RBI and one run scored. Lisa Rozanski went 2-2 with two runs scored.
Ball State scored two runs in the top of the third inning. Rozanski was walked to lead off the inning. She went on to steal second base and was able to advance to third on a throwing error by the Harvard catcher.
Allie Pennock followed Rozanski in the lineup and reached on a bunt. Pennock also went on to steal second base.
Barkley's first hit was a single that sent Rozanski home and Pennock to third base.
Amanda Pick hit a sacrifice fly to left field allowing Pennock to tag up and give the Cardinals a 2-0 lead.
The Cards put two more runs on the scoreboard in the fourth inning. Rozanski scored on a throwing error by Bailey Vertovez. Pennock moved to second base on the error and was sent home on an RBI single by Barkley.
Ball State had a big seventh inning scoring five runs off four hits. Pick hit an RBI single to left field allowing Barkley to score the first run of the inning.
Elizabeth Milian put the game away when she hit a two-RBI double to left center field. Milian leads the team with five doubles this season.
Laura Masch improved her pitching record to 2-2 this season. Masch threw a two-hitter and struck out four batters.
The team will participate in the South Florida Under Armour Softball Showcase March 11-12. Ball State will face Boston University at 9:30 a.m., and then matches up against Big-Ten opponent the Indiana Hoosiers.
