
Softball Start FIU Tournament 1-1

MIAMI, Fla. -- The Ball State softball team fell to Oregon State 8-1, but rebounded to defeated Florida International 6-1 to end day one of the tournament.
In game one the Cardinals fell behind 1-0 in the bottom of the first inning. Stefanie Ewing of Oregon State singled to left field allowing Cambria Miranda to score.
BSU came back to tie the game in the second inning. Abby Gross reached on a walk to start the inning, and Amanda Pick followed with a single up the middle. A sacrifice bunt by Elizabeth Milian advanced the runners into scoring position.
Alyssa Collins picked up her fourth RBI of the season with a groundball to third base. Oregon State's Alana Ford attempted a tag on Gross but missed, and Gross went on to score.
The Beavers regained the lead in the bottom of the second. Miranda singled to right field and Ford scored on the play.
Ewing led off the third inning with a stand up double for OSU. Erin Guzy followed in the lineup and delivered a single to right field, Ewing scored on the play increasing the OSU lead to 3-1.
Dani Chisholm hit a two-out single to left field that allowed Ford to score another run in the fourth inning to put Oregon State on top 4-1.
OSU scored four runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to pull away from the Cardinals. Chisholm hit a two RBI double to center field. DeAnn Young added a two RBI single to center that sealed the win for the Beavers with a final score of 8-1.
Tiffany Garofano got the start for Ball State. Garofano walked five batters and was replaced by Laura Masch in the third inning. Masch finished the game with two strikeouts. The loss takes Garofano's record to 2-4 on the season.
Ball State jumped out in front of game two. Lisa Rozanski scored the first run of the game off an infield hit by Alicia Barkley.
Each team put a run on the scoreboard in the second inning. Ashley Falk and Amanda Cox each picked up a single for the Golden Panthers. Collins scored off a single by Kate Wilczynski for the Cards.
The Cardinals started the third inning with three consecutive singles. Amber Wolf pinch hit for Natalie Bejarano and added a double allowing BSU to score three runs and increase their lead 5-1.
BSU added three more singles in the fourth inning. Barkley started the streak and Brittany Jones followed to pick up her first hit of the season. Pick's single sent Allie Pennock home and gave the Cards a 6-1 lead.
Barkley went 4-4 to lead the way for Ball State.
Elizabeth Milian picked up her fifth win of the season. Milian limited the Golden Panthers to six hits through seven innings.
Ball State will face Harvard at noon and then get a rematch against Oregon State at 2:30 p.m.
