Cardinals Comeback in 7th Inning to Defeat Akron

MUNCIE, Ind. ? Abby Gross hit a game-winning double in the bottom of the seventh inning to give the Cardinals a 4-3 victory over the Akron Zips Saturday afternoon at Ball State.

Four of Ball State's six hits came in the last two innings as the Cardinals came back from a 3-0 deficit to beat Akron.

The Zips took the lead in the top of the fourth inning when Katrina Moffett hit a double down the left field line. Cali Stratton's single up the middle allowed Moffett to score the first run of the game.

Akron increased its lead in the sixth inning with back-to-back RBI hits from Julie Boyes and Stratton.

The Cardinals chipped away at the lead in the bottom of the sixth inning. Elizabeth Milian hit a two RBI double to left field. Milian leads the team with eight doubles this season.

Alicia Barkley loaded the bases in the bottom of the seventh inning with a single to center field. Gross went to the plate with two outs and the opportunity to either tie or win the game with a hit. She blasted a double to the fence allowing Cassi Olp and Allie Pennock to score.

Milian finished the game 3-for-3 at the plate and also earned the win on the mound for BSU. Milian struck out nine batters and only walked one batter to earn her 10^th win of the season.

The Cardinals will end the weekend with another game against Akron Sunday at 1 p.m. at the Ball State Softball Complex.
