
Softball Goes 1-1 Against Butler

MUNCIE, Ind. ? The Ball State softball team won the first game 6-2, but the Bulldogs came back to win game two in extra innings.
Abby Gross led the Cardinal attack in game one. Gross finished the game with three RBI, going 3-4 at the plate.
Kathryn Wilczynski continued her hot streak finishing game one 2-3 with two RBI.
Gross earned her first RBI of the game in the bottom of the first inning. Her single to center field allowed Alicia Barkley to score the first run of the game.
Gross and Wilczynski got things going in the bottom of the third inning. Gross hit her third home run of the season, and Wilczynski hit a double to the wall in right center field allowing Elizabeth Milian and Amanda Pick to score.
Butler battled back in the fifth inning as Alex Boros slammed a two-run home run over the left field fence.
The Cardinals held off the attack with a run in the bottom of the fifth. A double from Milian allowed Pick to score, increasing the lead to 5-2.
The final run of game one came in the sixth inning as Alyssa Collins scored from second off a double by Gross.
Laura Masch picked up her fourth win of the season for the Cardinals. Milian came in to earn her third save of the season.
Butler took an early 1-0 lead in game one. Milian responded for BSU in the second inning by leading off with a triple. Kamilah Holle hit a deep sacrifice fly to right field allowing Milian to score.
The Bulldogs regained the lead in the third inning off an RBI single by Amy Hyerczyk.
The action picked up again in the seventh inning as Butler scored another run off back to back doubles from Bridget Paine and Hyerczyk pushing the Bulldog lead to 3-1.
Ball State rallied in the bottom of the seventh to score to runs and put the game into extra innings.
Wilczynski led off the inning with a single and came around to score off an RBI single by Allie Pennock.
Pennock went on to steal second base with Holle on third. Collins hit a line drive up the middle of the field and Holle scored easily, but Pennock was thrown out at home.
Butler's Lindsay Schluge hit a double in the top of the eighth that put the Bulldogs on top 4-3. The Cardinals were unable to score giving Butler the victory.
Collins finished game two 3-4 with an RBI, and Wilczynski finished 2-3.
Tiffany Garofano struck out six batters but it was not enough as she falls to 5-6 on the season.
Ball State will start Mid-American Conference play this Friday, March 28 with a doubleheader against Ohio University starting at 1 p.m.
