
Dixon, Franklin, Karwoski and Mishler Named Academic All-MAC

MUNCIE, Ind. - The Mid-American Conference released that Tyler Dixon (Jeffersonville, Ind./Jeffersonville), Ryan Franklin (Crown Point, Ind./Lake Central), Ben Karwoski (Bluffton, Ind./Bluffton) and Dane Mishler (Crawfordsville, Ind./Southmont) of the Ball State University men's swimming and diving team have been named to the 2007-08 Academic All-MAC Team.
The award is voted on by the league's faculty athletic representatives. A total of 21 student-athletes were named to the team.
Dixon led the team in scoring in the 50 back event at the Sun Belt Conference/Mid-American Conference championship after clocking in a time of 24.94. The time of 24.94 was a career high for the sophomore. Dixon also led the team in the 100 back at the MAC's after turning in a time of 52.77 which was also a personal best. Dixon also swam a top time of 1:53.64 in the 200 back at the MAC Championship which was a team best.
Franklin helped the Cardinals win the 400 medley relay in their first meet of the season against Eastern Illinois with a time of 3:38.94. He won the 200 breast in a near team win at Buffalo after clocking in a time of 2:12.40. Franklin helped BSU win the 200 medley relay while also winning the 100 breast at the Doug Coers Invitational with a time of 1:01.08. Franklin earned MAC Swimmer of the Week honors for the week of Nov. 21. He won the 100 breast event with a time of 1:00.10 at home against Miami. Franklin led the team with a time of 57.72 in the 100 breast at the MAC Championship which was good for third. He swam a 2:08.53 at the MAC's in the 200 breast earning him a top eight finish. He also finished 13th at the MAC's in the 200 IM with a 1:57.43.
Karwoski helped the Cardinals win the 400 free relay at Eastern Michigan with a time of 3:14.94. The sophomore captured a time of 4:50.30 in the 500 free against Miami to win the event. Karowski clocked in a season best 1:45.63 in the 200 free at the Sun Belt/MAC Championship which was good for a 12th place finish. In the 500 free he swam a 4:43.96 which was a season high and fourth best time on the team at the Sun Belt/MAC Championship.
Mishler swam a personal best 57.35 against Miami University in the 100 back on Feb. 9. He also earned a career high time of 4:36.29 in the 400 IM at Eastern Michigan on Jan. 26. Both scores were top five on the team for the season.
To be nominated, a student-athlete must have at least a 3.20 cumulative GPA and have participated in at least 50 percent of the contests for that particular sport. First year students and junior college transfers in their first year of residence are not eligible for the award. Outstanding academic and athletic accomplishments from the current season only are considered.
The Ball State men's swimming and diving team concluded its season with a ninth place showing at the MAC Championship on March 1.
