Men's Golf Ties for Seventh at Pinehurst

The Ball State University men's golf team finished in a tie for seventh in the 19-team field at the Pinehurst Intercollegiate in Pinehurst, N.C.
The Cardinals finished in a tie for seventh with a 303-304-299=906. Indiana won the tournament with a team total 865. Ball State defeated the other two Mid-American Conference schools in the tournament. Toledo was 13th with a 918, while Miami University was 14th with a 920 team score. Ball State tied with East Carolina, and finished only two strokes behind nationally ranked Wisconsin.
Ross Cosat was Ball State's individual leader with a 72-78-75=225, which placed him in a tie for 23rd. Cosat's 72 in the first round was the low individual Ball State score in the first round and tied for the team's best score in the tournament's three rounds.
Eric Steger and Brian Maurer tied for 32nd on Pinehurst No. 8. Steger managed a 77-75-75=227, and Maurer, who posted the team's best score of 72 in the final round, tallied a 78-77-72=227.
Andrew Rhodes tied for 47th with a 79-74-77=230, while Ben Lakoff managed a 76-78-77=231 to tie for 52nd.
Matt Schumaker competing as an individual in the tournament and registered an 82-75-76=233.
Ball State will return to action March 28-29 at the Indiana Invitational in Bloomington, Ind.
