
Softball Starts USF Tournament 2-0

TAMPA, Fla. -- The Ball State softball team improved their record to 12-10 after picking up two wins at the USF Tournament.
The Cardinals defeated Boston 6-5 in extra innings and also defeated Indiana 4-2.
Kamilah Holle hit a double off the top of the wall to start the third inning in game one. Lisa Rozanski hit a single up the middle, and went on to steal her 14th base of the season.
Alicia Barkley put the Cardinals on top with an RBI double down the left field line. Elizabeth Milian was walked with the bases loaded increasing the BSU lead to 2-0.
The Terriers took the lead in the top of the fifth inning when Shayne Lotito blasted a grand slam over the center field wall making the score 4-2.
Abby Gross tied the game when she hit a two run home run to left field. The home run is her second of the season and the 17th of her career.
Gross is the all-time BSU career home run leader with 17, and she has also moved into first all-time with 88 career RBI. The old record was 85 set by Ruth Hjelmeland (2000-03).
The game entered extra innings tied at 4-4. Brooke Hudson hit an RBI single to right field putting the Terriers up 5-4 in the top of the eighth.
The Cardinals tied the game when Amber Wolf hit a sacrifice fly to deep right field allowing Katelyn Gunderson to tag up and score.
Melissa Dubay hit a single to center field in the top of the tenth inning advancing Nora Militz into scoring position with one out. Dubay stole second base with Hudson at the plate.
Tiffany Garofano dialed in and threw back to back strikeouts getting Ball State out of the inning.
Jen Moore won the game in the bottom of the tenth inning with an RBI single down the left field line. Barkley scored the game winning run and finished the game 2-4 with a double.
Garofano threw all 10 innings for BSU. Garofano recorded 10 strikeouts to pick up her third win of the season.
Gross hit a lead off double to right center field to get the first hit of the game for BSU during game two. Pick was walked, and both runners advanced on a passed ball.
IU loaded the bases when Sara Olson walked Milian. Alyssa Collins grounded out to shortstop but Gross was able to score on the play putting the Cardinals on top 1-0.
Amanda Pick increased the lead with a head first slide at home plate. Pick advanced on a wild pitch by Olson.
Stephanie Pellerito led off the bottom of the third inning with a stand up double. Jennifer Glueckert added a single for Indiana. The Hoosiers got on the scoreboard with a sacrifice fly to right field by Emily Bergeson.
Olson walked Pick with the bases loaded put the Cards up 3-1. The Hoosiers made a pitching change and replaced Olson with Jennifer Moore. Moore walked Milian making the score 4-1.
Amber Wolf entered the game to pinch hit for Natalie Bejarano with the bases loaded and two outs. Wolf flew out to left field to end the inning.
Indiana got a run back in the bottom of the sixth inning. Jennilee Huddleston hit a triple to left field and went on to score off an infield hit by Brittany Stein.
Milian earned her seventh win on the mound for Ball State. Milian threw a complete game and only walked one batter.
Ball State will return to action March 12 to play against George Mason at 1:30 p.m. and South Florida at 6:00.
