
Softball Defeats George Mason, Falls To South Florida

TAMPA, Fla. ? The Ball State softball team defeated George Mason 2-0, but finished the tournament with a 1-0 loss to South Florida.
Lisa Rozanski got the first hit of the game for the Cardinals in game one. She advanced to second on a fielder's choice by Allie Pennock.
Alicia Barkley hit a single that got through the right side of the infield. Rozanski was able to score from second base putting the Cardinals on top 1-0.
The Ball State defense was solid in the fourth inning as they sat George Mason down in order due to Rozanski making three great catches in center field.
Kathryn Wilczynski led the Cardinal defense in the fifth inning recording all three outs.
Rozanski recorded her second hit of the day in the bottom of the fifth inning, and went on to steal second. She leads the team with 15 steals this season.
Barkley hit an RBI single up the middle that sent Rozanski home and increased the BSU lead to 2-0.
Laura Masch shut down the George Mason offense. Masch only allowed two hits and struck out three to earn the win. Elizabeth Milian came in to pick up the save for BSU. Milian struck out the only two batters she faced.
South Florida loaded the bases against Ball State to start the second game. Milian got Kit Dunbar to pop up to shortstop, and then struck out Alison Savarese to get out of the inning.
Pick led off the second inning with a stand up double to left center field. She reached third base off a sacrifice bunt by Milian. Pick tried to score off a bunt by Collins but the USF catcher was able to field the ball and apply the tag at the plate keeping the game tied at 0-0.
The Bulls took the lead in the top of the fourth inning as Caitlin Schneider scored off a wild pitch.
Cristi Ecks came into the game in the bottom of the sixth inning to earn the save for USF.
Milian took the loss on the mound for BSU. Milian threw a complete game and recorded four strikeouts.
Ball State will return to action March 14 to compete in the Speedline Tournament. The Cardinals start the tournament with a match-up against Long Island University at 1:00 p.m.
