
Swim Teams Split Meet vs. Miami

MUNCIE, Ind. - The Ball State University men's and women's swim teams split their meet against Miami in Mid-American Conference action Saturday afternoon at Lewellen Aquatic Center. The women's team came out on top, 176-124, while the men lost 163-136.
Before the meets, BSU recognized its seniors Addison Del Rio, Michelle Huang, Valerie McGowan and Stephanie Paul. For the men it was Caleb Bye, Ryan Franklin and Brett Pettit.
For the women, Katie Bylsma opened the meet with a win in the 50 free swimming a 24.94 final. Huang took top honors in the 100 free after clocking in a time of 53.45. Maria Gramelspacher pulled off a first place finish in the 200 free with a time of 1:56.86. Sarah Kehe continued the Cardinals success earning top honors in the 500 free with a 5:09.68 final. Erika Paul came in first in the 100 back (59.45) while teammate Lauren Harger garnered top honors in the 100 breast with a time of 1:07.03.
In the 10th event Gramelspacher earned her second first place finish of the day in the 100 fly swimming a 58.06. Megan Ploetz swam a 2:06.43 to finish first in the 200 fly.
Paul won both the 1-meter and 3-meter diving events for Ball State. On the 1-meter Paul scored a 260.47 and she finished with a 282.38 on the 3-meter.
For the men Ben Battjes opened the meet with a win in the 50 free after clocking in a time of 21.64. Ben Karwoski was a winner in the 500 free with a 4:50.30 final.
Other top finishers for the Cardinals were Tyler Dixon in the 200 back (1:58.37), Ryan Franklin won the 100 breast (1:00.10), Wells Arwood placed first in the 100 fly (53.29) and Dan Root won the 200 IM (2:03.95).
In diving Jeremy Whited took third in the 1-meter (247.42) and Caleb Bye placed third in the 3-meter (252.68).
The Cardinals closed the meet with a win in the 400 free relay. The quartet of Austin Laska, Josh Young, Eric Hercamp and Battjes swam a 3:14.38 final for the win.
The women will be back in action at the MAC Championship in Bowling Green, Ohio beginning Feb. 20. The men will return to the pool at the MAC Championship in Nashville, Tenn., Feb. 28.
