MUNCIE, Ind. - The Ball State women's tennis team (3-2) kicked off "Think Pink Weekend" with a 6-1 victory over Valparaiso (0-4) on Friday afternoon at the Muncie YMCA Tennis Center.

The Cardinals wore pink t-shirts helping Ball State Athletics promote breast cancer awareness this weekend. The campaign is in honor of the Women's Basketball Coaches Association Think Pink Initiative. The athletic department will be raising awareness in the battle against breast cancer at six different events this weekend on campus.

BSU swept doubles play against the Crusaders. Senior Haly Calderwood (Newington, Australia/Danebank) alongside classmate Jennifer Pollack (Memphis, Tenn./White Station) captured an 8-1 victory over Molly Keifer and Jenny Schwartz at No. 1. The No. 3 doubles tandem of Hayley Hall (Muncie, Ind./Delta) and Emma Retter (Winchester, England/Peter Symonds) blanked Lindsey Gustafson and Laura Lawson, 8-0.

The Cardinals won five singles matches. At No. 1 Sophie Quist (Australia/Ascham) pulled off a 4-6, 6-2, 10-8 win over Schwartz. Pollack captured a 6-1, 6-2 victory over Keifer at No. 3. Retter defeated Gustafson, 6-1, 6-0. Thomson won at No. 5 6-1, 6-0 and sophomore Katherine Rist (Leawood, Kansas/Blue Valley North) blanked Christine Antrobus, 6-0, 6-0.

Ball State women's tennis will play at Indiana University on Sunday, Feb. 17. The match will begin at 3 p.m.
