Men's Hoops Travels To Kent State Wednesday

THE GAME: Ball State returns to the road and into the Mid-American Conference's East Division with a 7 p.m. game Wednesday at Kent State . . . The game will be the 70th meeting in the all-time series that originated with a 44-27 BSU win in 1921 . . . The Cardinals lead the series 38-31, but KSU has won two in a row . . . In games played at Kent, the Flashes lead 23-10, including four straight wins.
OH, WE'RE HALFWAY THERE: Wednesday's game also marks the start of the second half of the 16-game league schedule . . . The Cardinals are 2-6 through their first eight games in league play.
ABOUT BALL STATE: Anthony Newell scored 17 points and grabbed eight rebounds, while Melvin Goins scored in double-digits for the second straight game with 15 points as the Cardinals dropped a 66-54 decision Saturday to Miami . . . Rashaun McLemore added 11 points in 21 minutes off the bench . . . Malik Perry chipped in eight points and grabbed nine boards, but Miami's Kenny Hayes sizzled for 27 points to lead the RedHawks to the win.

UT's Tyrone Kent's dunk and free throw capped an 8-0 Toledo run as time expired for the win . . . Mike Scott leads the Flashes with his 13.3 points per game average, while Haminn Quaintance adds a team-high 7.6 rebounds per outing.
A LOOK AT LAST WEEK: Freshman Melvin Goins scored in double figures in both contests last week, including a career-high 18 points against Bowling Green (Jan. 30) . . . For the week, Goins paced the team with 16.5 points per game, shot 43 percent from the floor and 85 percent from the free throw line . . . He also grabbed five steals . . .
