BATON ROUGE, La. -- The Ball State softball team entered the final day of the Easton Tiger Classic as the #4 seed. The Cardinals were forced to match-up against the #1 seed, the undefeated LSU Tigers.
St John's University was eliminated from the tournament after Saturday's games. UT Chattanooga wrapped up the #2 seed and Nicholls State rounded out the four team tournament as the #3 seed.
Ball State found themselves down 4-0 in the bottom of the second inning. The Cardinals responded in the third inning as Abby Gross singled to centerfield to drive home Lisa Rozanski and Allie Pennock closing the gap to 4-2.
The Tigers countered by scoring two more runs in the bottom of the third and put Ball State away in the bottom of the sixth inning when they scored four runs and won the game 10-2 due to the NCAA run rule.
Laura Masch took the loss on the mound for BSU. Masch finished the game for the Cards with three strikeouts.
Gross hit .333 over the weekend with one home run and 6 RBI. Freshman Alicia Barkley led the Cardinals with a .385 batting average and two stolen bases.
Ball State will travel to Chattanooga, Tenn. to compete in the Panera Bread Tournament Feb. 22-24.
