
Cardinals Split In Day Two

BATON ROUGE, La. -- The Ball State softball team picked up their first win of the season Saturday against the St. John's Red Storm 11-2. The Cards are 1-3 overall after losing to UT Chattanooga 9-0 in day two of the tournament.
The Cardinals were shut out in game one against the Mocs. Allie Pennock, Alyssa Collins and Alicia Barkley each recorded a hit for BSU.
The Mocs scored five runs in the bottom of the fifth inning to end the game due to the run rule.
Elizabeth Milian was on the mound for the Cardinals. Milian threw four innings and gave up five runs. Milian's record went to 0-2 early in the season. Laura Masch finished the game for BSU.
In game two St. John's took an early 2-1 lead in the first inning. Pennock scored the first run of the game for Ball State. Pennock walked to get on base, and then stole second. After advancing to third on an infield hit, Pennock went on to steal home to put the Cardinals on the scoreboard.
Ball State opened up a large lead in the third inning due to the St. John's pitching staff recording eight walks. The Cardinals made them pay by opening up a lead of 11-2.
Abby Gross finished the game 2-3 with 2 RBI. Milian went 1-1 at the plate with 2 RBI, and also picked up her first win of the season on the mound for BSU.
The Cardinals will continue tournament play tomorrow at Tiger Park.
