Field Hockey To Finish Regular Season On The Road

MUNCIE, Ind. ? The Ball State field hockey team travels to Central Michigan 1 p.m. Saturday before heading to Miami 1 p.m. Sunday to close out its last two regular season games.
Ball State is currently 2-14 overall and 1-7 in the Mid-American Conference. Freshman Brittany Hammer heads the Cardinals' offense with six goals this season. Hammer is also tied with junior Brooke MacGillivary for the most assists with three a piece. MacGillivary earned her first goal this season in the Cardinals' previous game at Ohio.
Forward Casey Hunsicker has chipped in four goals this season, scoring three of them in the last four games. On the defensive side, goalkeeper Tiffany Shifflett earned her 107th season save for the Cardinals, putting her just 21 shy of the top five in career saves.
Central Michigan sits at 6-10, 5-4 in conference play. The team is currently on a three-game winning streak after winning five of their last seven matches. Samantha Sandham still leads the Chippewa charge with 11 goals and seven assists.
Ball State fell to Central Michigan 3-1 during the last meeting despite holding Sandham scoreless. Freshman Devanny Kuhn earned her first goal during the match off a penalty shot for the lone Cardinal goal.
Miami holds a 12-6 overall record and are 6-3 in the MAC. The RedHawks attack is led by Christine Brightwell who has earned nine goals and her sister Katie Brightwell who follows right behind her with eight this season.
The RedHawks attacked early during the last match-up scoring two goals in the first 22 minutes. Miami would win the game 3-1.
Tiffany Shifflett earned 16 saves that day; the second highest a Cardinal has earned during head coach Annette Payne's tenure. Casey Hunsicker scored her second season goal during a scramble after a penalty corner for Ball State late in the second half for the Cardinals' only goal.
This will be the last regular season opponents the Cardinals face before heading into the MAC Tournament November 6 - 8 at Kent State.
