Field Hockey Begins Four-Game Stretch On The Road

MUNCIE, Ind. ? The Ball State field hockey team travels to Ohio 1 p.m. Saturday before facing Kent State 1 p.m. Sunday to close out its last four games on the road.
The Cardinals are coming off an impressive 6-2 win against Missouri State. A season-high six players logged a goal during the game, the most since 2005. The team is currently 2-12 overall and 1-5 in the Mid-American Conference and are tied for fifth place with the Bears.
Ball State has scored 21 goals this season as freshman Brittany Hammer leads the Cardinals with six goals and three assists. On the defensive end, goalkeeper Tiffany Shifflett has made 95 saves in the net for the Cardinals.
Ohio sits at 6-10 overall and 4-3 in the MAC. The Bobcats host the Cardinals in their final home game this season. Despite trailing by only three shots on goal in the meeting earlier this year, Ball State gave up four goals in the 4-0 decision in favor of Ohio. The Bobcats' leading scorer Rachelle Coetzee connected on two of them.
Kent State's Carla Johl helped her team to victory in its previous game against Michigan October 19. During that game, the Golden Flashes' defense also recorded their fifth shutout of the season. The team earned their seventh straight win the next day over Central Michigan. Kent State is currently 12-4 overall and lead the MAC at 6-1. During the previous meeting at Ball State, the Cardinals were outshot 20-4, losing 5-0 to the Golden Flashes in early October.
