Cross Country Opens 2007 Season In Bloomington
September 06, 2007 | Cross Country
The Ball State women's cross country team will open the 2007 season in Bloomington, Ind., where they will face off against Indiana, IUPUI and Michigan.
The Indiana Invitational will be a 5k race beginning at 9 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 8.
Junior Vanessa Gilbert will be the leader of the young Ball State team. Sophomores Sarah Kehe and Ali Bishel will look to impact the team early in the season.
Last season Kehe recorded four top-10 finishes, and led the team at the Mid-American Conference Championship, clocking in at 22:49. Bishel recorded two top-10 finishes last year and made the all-time BSU track and field top-10 list in the 1500-meters.
“This is a very young team, but we will be one of the best teams in the conference this year, not to mention next year,” says Ball State distance coach Dave Luce.
The 2007 team does not have any seniors, yet the sophomores on the team gained lots of experience as freshmen. Erin Filak, Amanda Hon and Dee Rosenbeck are the freshmen on this year's team.
“The three freshmen work hard and will be making the adjustment from high school competition to running our first three meets at two Big Ten schools and Notre Dame.”
Ball State returns Kelsey Nielsen, Brittany Ade and Lisa Arrowsmith to round out team. Ade and Arrowsmith each recorded two top-15 finishes last season, while Nielsen looks to stay healthy after battling injuries during her freshman year.
Official results from the Indiana Invitational will be available on www.ballstatesports.com upon the completion of the race.
