MUNCIE, Ind. -- The Ball State softball team swept Northern Illinois 6-2 and 8-3, in a doubleheader April 8. The two wins give the Cardinals a 4-4 Mid-American Conference record and 13-22 overall.
In game one, Kelli Jeziorski gave the Cardinals an early lead in the third inning with a triple that would score Allie Pennock.
Abby Gross started the fourth inning with a double to left centerfield. Two batters later, Amber Wolf came to the plate and hit her first home run of the season to put Ball State ahead 3-0.
Ball State got another lead-off double in the fifth inning from Alisha Etzler. Etzler was able to score off of a single by Jeziorski. Jeziorski ended game one 2-for-4 with 2 RBI.
Elizabeth Milian recorded the win for Ball State. Milian improves to 9-9 on the season and 3-2 in the MAC.
In game two Ball State jumped on top 1-0 in the first inning off a two-out single by Gross that scored Pennock.
Ball State increased their lead in the third inning as Pennock and Jeziorski hit back-to-back doubles scoring two runs. Milian laid down a sacrifice bunt to score Taylor Yancey for the third run of the inning giving the Cardinals a 4-0 lead.
Northern Illinois had a big sixth inning including two doubles and a triple to generate three runs, but it wouldn't be enough as Ball State came back with a triple by Yancey and a double by Milian to make the score 8-3 in favor of Ball State.
Pennock went 3-for-3 in game two with a steal and three runs scored. Gross went 4-for-4 with two RBI, giving her a team-high 23 this season.
Amanda Pick won her third game of the season for the Cardinals. Pick threw a complete game and recorded two strikeouts.
Ball State will travel to Ann Arbor, Mich. to face the Wolverines on April 10.
