Ann Arbor, Mich -- The Ball State softball team was defeated by ninth-ranked Michigan Tuesday at Alumni Field 6-1.
Kelli Jeziorski led the Cardinals going 2-for-3. Jeziorski came to the plate with two outs in the sixth inning to record her second hit of the game. The hit was a solo home run that set a new single-season home run record for Ball State.
“Kelli had a great at-bat when she hit the home run,” says BSU head coach Craig Nicholson. “She battled in the count, fouled off some tough pitches and found her pitch.”
Jeziorski's seventh home run of the season breaks the old record set by Misty Snider in 1999.
The home run by Jeziorski is her 12th of her career which ties the BSU career home run record.
Samantha Findlay finished the game 2-for-3 with two home runs and five RBIs to lead the Wolverines to victory.
Elizabeth Milian was on the mound for the Cardinals. Milian threw a complete game and recorded three strikeouts. The loss takes her to 9-10 on the season.
The Wolverines used their two-girl rotation starting with Lorilyn Wilson for the first three innings. Wilson gave up one hit, no runs and struck out six. Nikki Nemitz came in for the final four innings. Nemitz gave up the home run to Jeziorski and struck out four batters.
Ball State returns to action April 11 vs IUPUI in a doubleheader at 2 p.m. The game will be held at the BSU Softball Complex.
