
Eastern Michigan Sweeps Ball State

MUNCIE, Ind. -- The Ball State softball team dropped two games against Eastern Michigan to take their conference record to 6-10.
Ball State was defeated 7-1 in game one. The Cardinals made a comeback in game two to tie the game in the bottom of the seventh inning. However, the Eagles scored three runs in the 10th inning and won the game 6-3.
In game one, Jenny Scherer of Eastern Michigan hit a solo home run for the first run of the game in the second inning.
The Eagles would strike again in the fifth inning with back-to-back doubles that would allow two runners to score and increase the Eastern Michigan lead to 3-0.
Eastern Michigan recorded five hits in the sixth inning including two more doubles to score four more runs and go ahead 7-0.
Taylor Yancey hit her fifth triple of the season in the bottom of the sixth inning to get things started for BSU. She was able to score off a ground ball hit by Abby Gross. Yancey has scored 40 runs for BSU this season.
Michelle Lloyd picked up the win for Eastern Michigan while the loss would fall to Elizabeth Milian. Milian is now 12-16, after giving up seven runs on 11 hits.
Laura Masch came in to finish the game for the Cardinals. In 1.1 innings Masch recorded 2 strikeouts.
Game two picked up in the fourth inning as Ball State took a 1-0 lead off a double by Gross that scored Kelli Jeziorski.
Lindsay Schmid hit a two-run home run in the sixth inning to give the Eagles a 2-1 lead. Lauren Clark increased the EMU lead with a solo home run in the seventh inning.
In the bottom of the seventh inning freshman Amber Wolf hit a double with two outs to keep the inning alive and pull the Cardinals within one run. Brittney Jones came into the game to pinch run for Wolf with Kamilah Holle at the plate. Holle singled to right center field and Jones was able to score to tie the game at 3-3.
In extra innings Heather Han hit a home run to put the Eagles ahead 6-3. Ball State was unable to make another comeback as they were unable to get a hit in the 10th inning.
Each pitcher went the distance to throw all 10 innings in game two. Amanda Pick dropped to 6-11 on the season.
Ball State will return to action April 28 as they host Central Michigan at 2 p.m.
