
Cards Continue To Win, Sweep IPFW

The Ball State softball team improved to 19-26 on the season after defeating IPFW 8-5 in game one, and 6-0 in game two.
Ball State took an early lead in game one by being aggressive on the bases. Brittney Jones stole two bases on her way to score the games first run. Kamilah Holle drove a ball up the middle to score Katelyn Gunderson and give BSU a 2-0 lead.
IPFW answered in the bottom of the second inning by scoring five runs. The Mastodons loaded the bases early in the inning and generated their five runs off of three hits and a Ball State error.
Ball State bounced back in the third as Allie Pennock started the inning with a single and a stolen base. Kelli Jeziorski hit a double to right field that allowed Penncok to score. Taylor Yancey singled to move Jeziorski to third, and Abby Gross provided a sacrifice fly to send the runner home.
Ball State recorded another double, this time from Elizabeth Milian. Milian's hit allowed Yancey to score her 36th run of the season. Yancey leads the team, and the Mid-American Conference in runs scored.
Gross increased Ball State's lead with a two-run home run. The home run by Gross sets a new single-season career home run record with 13.
Amanda Pick earned the win on the mound. Pick pitched all seven innings for her sixth win of the season. She only allowed four hits while striking out six IPFW batters.
In game two BSU got ahead 2-0 in the first inning. A double by Jeziorski got Yancey into scoring position. Milian laid down a sacrifice bunt to allow Yancey to score the first run of the game. Jeziorski advanced to third on the play and went on to score off a wild pitch.
Taylor Yancey hit a solo home run in the seventh inning to put Ball State up 6-0. The home run is Yancey's eighth of the year a single-season BSU record.
Laura Masch threw a complete game for the win. Masch only gave up two hits and struck out nine batters.
Ball State will return to MAC play April 21 when the host Miami University at 2 p.m.
